Each year since 2013, Toronto advertising agency Grip Limited has hosted the Grip Juicer Apprenticeship Program competition. The program and competition provides a great opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a risk-free learning environment to allow students to road test their advertising skills while working in a “agency team”. Besides bragging rights students who compete, students could potentially be offered a paid 4-moth long apprenticeship at the agency.
The primary goal of the “Juicer” is to challenge participants and encourage professional development to groom future leaders in the advertising industry. This year’s team from CABNation was fiercely passionate and aspired to the highest levels of strategic planning and creative development and brought home the “GOLD”.
This year students were challenged with a brief/case study for Grip Limited client Lindt Chocolate. It required the development of a complete integrated advertising plan including research, media planning and creative concept development across various media recommendations.
The competition is the most realistic representation of working in the advertising from the client briefing to campaign development to creative executions to the final agency/client pitch. Students have described their participation as one of the most rewarding and a self-enlightening experience that required a lot of hard work and dedication.
Since the inception of the “Juicer” in 2013, the Seneca Creative Advertising program has won Gold twice and Silver and Bronze on two other occasions.
This years team included (left to right) Gemma Manangan, Vinesh Beharry, Carole Ineichen, Daniel Panno, Kelly Yuen and Andy Bugelli.
The program offers students experiential learning with agency partners and an opportunity to travel to New York for Advertising Week. You become part of the advertising industry with working on real clients from briefs to pitch. Add to that agency tours meeting with the industry thought leaders and begin the challenge of marketing yourself.
There’s no looking back. You study, learn and apply before skills before you graduate. As a Creative Advertising graduate you can join advertising agencies, digital and social media agencies, corporate advertising departments and related marketing and communications fields. You take your pick.
This program is a perfect fit if you are a creative thinker, strong-willed and extremely dedicated with a deep imagination, superior writing and interpersonal skills and a deep passion for learning.
Over the years, Seneca’s Creative Advertising students have had the opportunity to do real work on real briefs from some of the hottest and most reputable agencies in Toronto. Our mandate is to not only develop our students’ understanding of the craft of Advertising, but to also simulate the agency experience, from brief to pitch.
